This past week we had a couple of guests who took a sled dog excursion through some of the countryside just to our north. They came back to the Inn with rave reviews about the experience!

A sled dog ride is just one of many winter activities you can enjoy around the Squam Lake area. There’s downhill skiing and cross country skiing nearby at Waterville Valley or Loon Mountain. You can skate on a local pond or lake or at Plymouth State’s Ice Arena, and of course there’s ice fishing throughout the lakes region. There’s also tubing nearby at Gunstock Mountain and a couple of zipline tours offer winter rides. Or bring your snowshoes and head out our back door onto our 50 wooded acres. You can visit our website for a complete listing of winter activities.
Why not plan a getaway where you can partake in these many activities and enjoy great hospitality at a charming New Hampshire B&B at the same time? We have spacious, comfortably furnished guestrooms with all the modern amenities including free WIFI and tv’s.

If you’re looking for a special weekend getaway consider joining us for one of 18th Annual Candlelight Dinners. We offer a 5 course dinner by candlelight as part of a weekend package. This only happens twice a year either in March or April. Our first dinner weekend which is coming up is sold out, but our second weekend – April 13 & 14 still has room.
This is a great way to explore the Squam Lakes area when things are quiet. With such an early Spring the snow is gone and the ice has melted off the lake. You should be able to hike one of the area trails without any bugs! Central New Hampshire has lots to offer regardless of the time of the year. Plymouth, home of Plymouth State University, is bustling and Meredith, just 15 minutes away on Lake Winnipesaukee, is filled with charming shopping opportunities.
Our weekend package offers you one of our bed and breakfast’s spacious guestrooms for two nights, a full country breakfast for 2 each morning, and dinner for 2 on Saturday night – all for only $395. Come on up!

Fall foliage is winding down and November and December will bring a slower pace to Squam Lake and the Inn On Golden Pond. While the bright fall colors will be gone and the general color will be gray there is something refreshing about November. With no foliage you can see so much in the woods – rock formations, buildings, stone walls – that simply are hidden from May through October. It’s a great time to take a hike with scenic vistas everywhere.
Here at the Inn we have a crackling fire going each evening making our sitting room a great place to snuggle up with a glass of wine or to sit and work on a jigsaw puzzle. If you’re looking for a good night’s sleep you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that takes over at this time of year. And the aroma of fresh coffee in the morning will entice you to the dining room for one of our great country breakfasts.
During the off season we enjoy all the local entertainment available in the area. The Silver Center at Plymouth State University and the Flying Monkey Performance Center in Plymouth are two wonderful venues which offer great shows throughout the year. If you spend a night with us in November or December and attend a performance at either location we’ll discount your room by a dollar amount equal to one ticket. It’s our way of supporting our local entertainment centers.
So if you’re looking for quality accommodations to get in a little down time give us a call. We provide some of the best bed and breakfast lodging in the Plymouth and Holderness area. This is the time to visit New Hampshire – the quiet season, but a season filled with great entertainment.

Enjoy an evening by the fire

We have a new addition to our area recreational scene. The new Plymouth State University ice arena is a state of the art facility and appears to be the first all “green” arena in the country. Everything from the geothermal refrigeration and heating system to the lighting was designed to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
The arena is home to the Plymouth State’s men’s hockey team and women’s hockey team, but also offers programs to the general public including open skate sessions, youth hockey, broomball, learn-to-skate and learn-to-play-hockey sessions. It’s a gem for the area!
When you come to the Inn On Golden Pond for comfortable lodging in the Plymouth NH area you can now bring your ice skates and get out on the ice during public skate sessions all year round. Just click here to see the public skating schedule.

Well it’s been a busy season with great colors! We’ve had guests from all over the world who all agree the scenery around our Squam Lake bed and breakfast is breathtaking. Yesterday we were entertained by a doe and two fawns in our backyard – a little something to add to the beautiful colors.
This time of the year is our favorite as guests enjoy their evenings gathered around the fireplace in our sitting room, sharing stories before they retire for a good night’s sleep in one of our spacious guest rooms. It really reminds us how special New England is with our foliage and our great countryside. People visiting for their first time are always awestruck.
In a few weeks things will get quiet in Holderness as the lakes region settles in for winter. Of course, there are always things to do and our neighboring town of Plymouth offers great entertainment downtown and at Plymouth State University throughout the school year. And many of New Hampshire’s best ski mountains are just a short distance away. So plan a New Hampshire weekend getaway now – whether it’s for skiing, taking in a performance at Plymouth State or just relaxing by the fire in our sitting room.

Historic Rounds Hall on the campus of Plymouth State University
Two area graduations will occur on the weekend of May 22. Plymouth State University will hold its undergraduate commencement on Saturday, May 22 and Holderness School graduates its seniors on Sunday the 23rd.
Over the years we have hosted many parents and families of students at both of these schools. We’ve found that often when parents are visiting for Parent’s Weekends or other occasions they enjoy taking sometime to explore Squam Lake and the surrounding area. The area offers great hiking trails and beautiful scenery. Some folks find time to get out on Squam Lake and enjoy some water activities including lake tours that leave daily from the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center.
Of course, we appreciate that they have picked our New Hampshire bed and breakfast as their lodging choice. Each year as another class graduates from Plymouth State or Holderness School we feel like we have an Inn On Golden Pond graduating class as we bid farewell to those parents who will moving on to the next chapter in their children’s lives. As another graduation season approaches we prepare ourselves for a final visit from several families we have come to know so well over the past several years.
