Read on to learn more about Castle in the Clouds as it marks its 100th anniversary season.

A Bit of History

Castle in the Clouds, or Lucknow Estate was built between 1913 and 1914 for Thomas Gustave Plant, a wealthy shoe manufacturer and his wife Olivia. The mansion is in the Arts and Crafts style of architecture, which is somewhat rare in New England, making Castle in the Clouds all the more unique.  The Arts and Crafts style of architecture emphasized living in harmony with nature, and the house’s design and construction reflects that.  The estate sits on a staggering 5,500 acres of breathtaking land.  Now Castle in the Clouds is owned by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and operated by the Castle Preservation Society.
