Day Trips Map

Around the Lakes
Water, trees, mountains and history, they’re all in our “Around the Lakes” day trip. Grand views of Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee… charming New Hampshire villages… an old country store dating back to stage coach days… “America’s oldest summer resort”… a magnificent historic home (open to the public) set high on a hillside with sweeping views of the entire region… great hiking trails… craft shops… boat excursions… boardwalks along the shoreline. They’re all on this route. It can be done in about 3 hours, but most people fill a day and still want to go back for more.

Into the White Mountains
One of New Hampshire’s greatest features is the White Mountain National Forest and you can be surrounded by its majestic beauty all day on this route. You’ll head north from the Inn through Franconia Notch, arguably the most striking landscape in the state. Then it’s through Bretton Woods and the historic Mount Washington Resort nestled at the base of New England’s highest peak, Mount Washington. Onward through Crawford Notch and into North Conway, a shopper’s paradise with hundreds of outlet stores, shops and restaurants. The final stretch takes you across the Kancamagus Highway, 35 miles of stunning beauty through the mountains in the heart of the national forest.

A Road Less Traveled
Almost everywhere you travel throughout New Hampshire you’ll encounter untouched and little touched countryside that exudes New England’s charm. This route combines open fields; rugged rock-faced hillsides; a covered bridge or two; a famous historic country store; crystal clear streams and rivers; a store which Guiness says has the “world’s longest candy counter”; and the popular Flume Gorge and Basin in Franconia Notch. Most of this route covers ground that fewer visitors travel so this should give you a taste of authentic New Hampshire.
