This past weekend we enjoyed hosting a couple who at one time owned Grand Craft - Builders of Fine Mahogany Boats. They brought one of their beautiful wooden boats all the way from Michigan to shuttle a wedding party to and from Church Island on Squam Lake. It was a grand boat for a grand event! The groom’s family is a longtime owner of a Grand Craft so the boat had special significance for him, but it was extra special because he had no idea the boat would be here.
Here in New Hampshire’s lakes region we’re used to seeing classic wooden boats although most of them are Chris Crafts. So we were intrigued by the Grand Craft. We were told each boat takes about 6-8 months to build. The craftsmanship is obvious. The company’s website describes the boats as “handcrafted mahogany runabouts embodying the classic design and enduring spirit of the 20s and 30s.” We invite you to visit their website and drool.
Whether you get out on Squam Lake in a classic wooden boat or in a kayak you’ll find some of the most beautiful scenery in New Hampshire. Why not plan to visit us here at the Inn On Golden Pond in the near future and enjoy a few days of aquatic fun? And when you’re not on the water there’s plenty to do. You’ll find interesting shops to poke around in and some great restaurants. Round out your days with a short hike in the Squam Range or a drive on some of our scenic back roads. And best of all end your day in one of our bed and breakfast’s spacious rooms.
Grand Crafts come in various sizes and styles, but all are beautiful!
